Effects of DIR/Floortime¢ç Parent Coaching Therapy on a Child with a High-Functioning Aut Spectrum Disorder
Jung Hee-Seung

Abstract
This study applied DIR/Floortime¢ç parent coaching therapy to a 7-year-old boy with an autism spectrum disorder who exhibited depression, withdrawal, and social immaturity. The mother's main complaint was that she had no interest in
understanding the child¡¯s repetitive play patterns, and wanted to improve her social interaction and communication with child. In addition, she wanted to change her child¡¯s internalized emotional behaviors. Therefore, the researcher conceptualized that the cause of the main problem was the mother¡¯s lack of social interaction and communication with her child. The DIR/Floortime¢ç parent coaching therapy, a developmental intervention for children with an autism
spectrum disorder, consisted of 10 sessions. The content of the therapy was to give training on the DIR/Floortime¢ç treatment principle through video feedback and to consult after interactive coaching to analyze the child's and mother¡¯s
functional emotional developmental stages and individual differences profiles to ensure optimal interaction. As a result of applying the therapy, the social interaction and communication between the mother and child changed positively;
the level of parenting stress decreased; and the child's social immaturity, withdrawal and depression symptoms improved. This study implies that the DIR/Floortime¢ç parent coaching therapy has clinical therapeutic effects on the
improvement of social interaction and communication function between a mother and her child with a high-functioning autism spectrum disorder.
